Embolizační intervenční výkony představují cenný nástroj v paliativní onkologii, zaměřující se na řešení komplikací a zlepšení kvality života pacientů s pokročilým nádorovým onemocněním. Nejčastěji se jedná o problematiku řešení krvácení inoperabilních tumorů a metastáz, zejména v oblasti gastrointestinálního a urogenitálního traktu, nicméně embolizace může využita i pro kontrolu lokální progrese a zmírnění některých dalších symptomů. Embolizační výkony mohou být také indikovány jako předoperační u resekcí hypervaskularizovaných tumorů např. v oblasti páteře pro redukci peroperačních krevních ztrát.
